Coming Back to Life

Have you ever felt like you’re running on an empty tank…while the list of demands just keeps growing?

I’ve been quiet here for a while, because quite honestly, I’ve been living that reality. Work. Stress. Personal commitments. Good intentions that slowly drift aside when something else needs your attention more…you know how it goes.

And if I’m being honest…this space used to reflect that too.

A little scattered. A little inconsistent. A mix of learning, experimenting, and sharing—without a clear direction holding it all together.

So, I’ve made some changes.

If you’ve been here before, you may notice some older posts are gone. I kept a few favorites and updated the ones that still fit where this space is heading.

What Changed

I didn’t disappear—I’ve just been living.
And somewhere in the middle of all of that… things started shifting in my body and my brain.

Not dramatically. Just enough to notice that what used to work wasn’t working the same way anymore.

Because at some point—quietly, without much announcement—I found myself in midlife.

And the “just try harder” approach? It stopped working.

Even worse—it started making everything feel heavier.

Clarity came in flashes, but one thing stuck:

What I need now looks different than it used to:

Less intensity. More consistency.

Why I’m Back (and Why This Is Different)

This space is coming back—but with more clarity than it had before.
Less scattered.
More intentional.
More rooted in what actually matters at this stage of life.

No longer learning for the sake of learning or curiosity, but applying it in ways that fit into real, everyday life.

The Problem With “Wellness”

Wellness hasn’t gotten any simpler. If anything, it’s louder and more confusing than ever.

Do this. Don’t do that.
Balance your hormones. Fix your gut.
Cut out everything enjoyable.
Wake up earlier. Meditate longer. Do more.

It’s a lot.

And for most of us—especially those of us working, managing homes, showing up for other people—it’s not realistic.

A Different Approach

So this space is shifting.

Not into something perfect… but into something clearer.

Pathways & Potions is now focused on a lifestyle-first approach to midlife wellness, supported by herbal practices.

Because here’s what I’ve learned (and am still learning):

You can use all the herbs—and all the best intentions in the world—but if your blood sugar is all over the place, your sleep is inconsistent, and your stress is constantly humming in the background… it’s hard for anything to really help.

And it’s even harder to feel like yourself.

What That Actually Looks Like

We’re focusing on the things that actually move the needle:

  • Blood sugar (important, often overlooked)
  • Sleep (that thing we all say we’ll fix later)
  • Stress (the root of more than we may realize)
  • Movement (without turning it into punishment)
  • Herbs (helpful in so many ways—but not a magic solution)

No extremes.
No “starting over.”
No expectation that you suddenly become a completely different person.

If You’ve “Fallen Off the Wagon”

You’re in good company.

I can’t even count how many times I’ve told myself, “Okay, this is it. I’m doing everything right now.”…and then didn’t.

I’m a nurse. I have a full life. My schedule isn’t predictable. Free time is limited.
I’ve never become that perfectly disciplined person.

But I have reached the point where paying attention matters.
And I’m no longer waiting for the perfect time to “start again.”

A More Realistic Way Forward

This is what I believe now:

You don’t have to change everything. You just have to start doing something.

One small shift.
A few intentional minutes each day.
Something that actually fits your life.

Then you build from there.

What This Space Is (and Isn’t)

This isn’t medical advice, and it’s definitely not a picture of perfection.

It’s a space where I share what I’m learning, what I’m trying, what works, what doesn’t—and how it fits into real life.

Writing helps keep me on track.
And if you’re reading…maybe it helps you too.

If You’re Here With Me…

If you’ve been feeling a little off…
a little tired…a little fog brained…and a little more anxious…
you’re not alone…

Midlife can take a toll.

But you don’t need to overhaul your entire life to start feeling better.
You just need a place to begin.

And That’s What This Is

Not a perfect plan.
Not a strict system.
Just some paths to explore.
